Internet marketing is fast becoming a complex and rapidly changing discipline. Put simply, internet marketing is finding people online who are interested in a product or service and placing an offer in front of them. Internet marketing is no different to offline marketing except that it happens in the virtual realm. The same marketing principles apply, but the playing field is digital.
At Planit73, we develop a tailored mix of social media and search solutions that are specific for your business and industry. We don't waste time building links that are of no relevance to your business.
How long does it take to be on page 1 of Google?
We don't guarentee anyone that they will be on page 1 of Google. Why! Because we don't control Google and how or why someone appears at the top or bottom of their ranking algorithm. From our experience, being on page 1 of Google depends on:
- The level of competition in your industry
- How much effort you are willing to devote to the cause, and
- Time (you can't expect overnight success).
Do I have to be on page 1 of Google to succeed online?
Most definately not. The internet is a treasure trove of opportunity and there are many ways to place a business in front of potential customers. While being on page 1 of Google is nice, it doesn't ensure your business will succeed. Being on page 1 is a great way to become part of a customers basket of potential prospects but is in no way a guarentee to online success.
What is Search Engine Optimisation
SEO, or search engine optimisation, is the craft of elevating websites or individual website pages to higher rankings on search engines through SEO friendly website design, use of keywords and keyword phrases, internet marketing strategies, like social media, and relevant content throughout your website.
Keywords
A part of successful search engine optimisation of websites is working out what keywords (Google traffic estimator) your prospective visitors might type in to a search engine to find the results they are looking for. A good website contains those keywords or keyword phrases and are presented in a way that is relevant to the user.
Organic Search Results
In order to be on the first page of an organic search result, you must carefully choose the keywords you wish to be found for and concentrate your SEO on those words. We recommend you limit your keywords to 2-3 words or phrases per page. There is no exact formula for making this work but rather a combination of SEM, SMM and SEO strategies.
Google Page Rank
Google Page Rank is a link analysis algorithm used by the Google internet search engine. It assigns a numerical weighting to each page on your website (from 1 -10; with 10 being the highest). Google figures that when one page links to another page, it is effectively casting a vote for the other page. The more votes that are cast for a page, the more important the page must be. Also, the importance of the page that is casting the vote determines how important the vote itself is. The page rank of your web page is one factor in determining where your site appears in keyword search results within the Google internet search engine.
Search Engine Marketing (SEM)
SEM refers to the lead-generating funnels you create that link back to your website pages (using, for example, article marketing, link-building, and pay-per-click advertising).
Social Media Marketing (SMM)
Social media is a must in today's online environment. In basic terms, it's about creating a community around your brand by building authority and trust. You need to regularly engage with your customers in order to create a community. There are abundant free networking tools available on the internet, including things like wikis, social networking sites, news sites, forums, and blogs, but not all of them work for all types of businesses.
Backlinks
Backlinks help search engine crawlers find your site and can give your site greater visibility in search results. Google's search ranking algorithm ranks backlinks to websites based on:
• The volume of incoming links to a webpage
• The quality of the incoming links to a webpage
• The relevancy of the incoming links to a webpage.
Backlinks are links on one website that lead back to another website. Throughout 2012, search engines have greatly changed the way they utilise and view backlinks. You can read the latest on backlinking from our strategies for online marketing blog.
Backlink strategies include:
• Article submissions
• Social media enagagment
• Press releases
• Blogs/Forums
• Directory submissions
• Classified ads
• Social bookmarking.
